It is not solid gold: PVD (physical vapour deposition) bonds a thin layer of gold-coloured coating to the steel, which is more resistant to everyday wear than a standard flash plating, but it can still wear gradually with use - faster on rings and bracelets that rub against surfaces. Because it is a base-metal piece, it is not hallmarked.
